A man was waiting for a taxi.

A beggar came along and asked him for some money.

The man tried to ignore him, but the beggar kept on pestering him. When the man shouted at the beggar to go away, the beggar called the man a miser and all sorts of names but refused to budge an inch.

The man became irritated and was wondering what to do when suddenly an idea struck him. He said to the beggar, “I will give you money but you have to first tell me what you want to do with the money.”

“I want to buy a glass of milk,” replied the beggar.

“Milk? What’s the use of milk? Here, have a cigarette,” the man said, holding a cigarette pack towards the beggar and offering him a cigarette.

“No, I don’t want a cigarette,” the beggar said, “I don't smoke. You must stop smoking too. Don’t you know smoking is injurious to health? And in any case I ma feeling thirsty and weak. That’s why I want to drink some milk.”

“Thirsty and weak?” the man smiled and took out a bottle of whisky from his pocket and told the beggar, “ Here, take this bottle and enjoy the booze. It is really good whisky. It will quench your thirst and fill you with strength and energy.”

The beggar refused to take the whisky bottle and said, “Are you crazy? Alcohol muddles the brain and damages the liver. You can get addicted to alcohol, become an alcoholic.”

The man smiled again. He said to the beggar, “I am going to the race course. Come with me and I will give you ten rupees to buy a jackpot ticket. If you win and hit the jackpot, you will become rich. Of course, you will have to share half-half.”

The man was stunned as the heard the beggar politely refusing his latest offer, “I am sorry sir, I cannot come with you as gambling is a bad habit.”

The man looked at the beggar in bewilderment. Suddenly an idea struck him and he  asked the beggar, “Do one thing. You come with me to my house.”

At first, the beggar was delighted and his face lit up in anticipation of receiving at least something from the man. But the he started having doubts and suspicions about the man’s offer to take him home and so the beggar asked the man, “Why do you want to take me to your house?”

The man replied, “My wife always wanted to see how a man with no bad habits looks like.”
